National Running Day-I totally forgot about it (again).

I'm not a big history or military buff. However, I always associate June 6th with the D-day invasion in Normandy, France during World War II. It was one of the largest military offenses and it turned the tide for the Allied forces during World War II.

I didn't even know national running day existed until last year. Yesterday (June 6th)  was a planned rest day for me. Over the weekend I did some stroller running with my son, on Monday I lifted heavy and I destroyed my legs doing squats and lunges. On Tuesday I ran 7.3 miles on the treadmill in an hour. I've been feeling weird about running lately. I was almost worried that I wouldn't be able to finish the hour before I even got started.  My legs were tired from Monday's workout but, I had some great tunes to rock out with and it felt good.

  1. I also tend to forget National Running Day -- the fact that I ran yesterday was mere coincidence. I like your WWII association much better since that really IS a big day in history (also not a history buff though!).

Also: stroller running!! OMG is that hard!! I only tried it once with a friend who has kids and took a turn with her stroller and pushing something while running really makes a difference! I'm curious if it took you long to get used to it and if you've ever tried it on a trail (we were on a trail and I'm thinking maybe that was part of the problem?).

  2. Stroller running is HARD!! I don't even have a real running stroller yet. I'm using a regular GRACO stroller. I had to stop running when I was 5 1/2 months pregnant. My pelvis hurt too much to force it, so I lost a lot of fitness during those last months anyhow, I was so excited just to be outdoors running agian that I don't mind it, and yes it takes a lot of getting used to.

  3. I just listened to a Podcast by "Small Business Big Marketing" (out of Australia), and I learnt that basically anyone can create a "National Day" if they so please. National porridge day. National dog walker's wearing high heels day. National Puggle visit Nordstrom Day." So don't feel bad about missing national running day. It's just like missing Valentine's Day. Your heart is always there... running is always there. :)

It's nice that there's a National Running Day to raise awareness for the fitness activity even though for us, every day is a running day. Hopefully some people got out and ran to celebrate but I will admit, I don't think I did!!
